Thanks, Howard. I totally agree with both your conference-call reference and the get-out-of-your-seat practice. There's been some talk about how Yahoo! should treat its employees as adults (as if asking people to come into work constitutes handholding). I think that's unfair. I would say that the whining crowds should grow up and act like the adults they think they are.

Great read as always Ismail. I agree that working remotely can and does work, it's contextual. If you need to really just get something done, working at home facilitates this process and takes away most of the typical office distractions. However, being in the office helps to foster not only serendipitous conversations and ideas, but more importantly the instance or chance that such a conversation may occur. If you’re not in the office the likelihood of randomly having a conversation that leads to an idea is greatly reduced. Furthermore, having conversations in person has much more feeling and meaning as you can see people’s verbal and non-verbal cues. How many times have you been on either side of a conference call and just tuned out (muted) until your name was blurted out? I would even go a step further and say that even if you and your colleagues are in the office, get out of your seat and make a point to go and talk to people. You don’t have to wait for that 10:15 mandatory stand up meeting or sit at your desk and just IM, that’s lame. It’s only when YOU make an effort to get to know others on a personal level that great things start to happen.

Hey Owen,

If this is going to be your main computer, I'd go with the 13". It definitely has a better battery life than the 11". I don't mind the battery life for my 11" MBA since it hasn't been an issue so far.

Hope this helps!
